war landscape ... oil exploitation ... america ?

In Wyoming, the Dark Side of America’s Thirst for Energy - New York Times: many Americans, the people in Teton County — which includes Jackson — do not understand what it takes to feed the country’s seemingly insatiable demand for energy.

“Most people don’t know what goes on in an oil field,” she said. “It’s a war landscape. Those boys are out there 24 hours, even when it’s 50 below and the wind is blowing sideways.”
